About

History of the Northern Ireland Housing Council

The Housing Council was established in 1971 by the same Act of Parliament which set up the Housing Executive i.e. the Housing Executive Act (Northern Ireland) 1971.

The Housing Council has operated effectively since 1971 on a cross-party basis even throughout the worst years of ‘the Troubles’. It is this cross-party approach to common issues on housing which has strengthened and sustained the Housing Council and which will do so in the years ahead as it continues to seek the best housing solutions for all communities in Northern Ireland.
