The Housing Council is consulted by the Housing Executive and the Department for Communities on all matters that affect housing policy in Northern Ireland.
The Housing Council is made up of one representative from each of the eleven District Councils in Northern Ireland. That representative is named in the relevant legislation as the Chair of each Council or their delegated representative.
Under the Review of Public Administration the number of local Councils in Northern Ireland is to reduced to eleven.
The full Housing Council currently meets monthly except in July and meetings are usually held on the 2nd Thursday each month but this is under review.
Housing Council Committees are the Standing Orders Committee, which meets as and when required, and the Awards Committee which meets annually to consider nominations for Housing Council awards made to staff across the housing sector. Membership of these Committees is determined at the Housing Council’s Annual General Meeting.
Other Committees may be set up on an ad hoc basis to deal with specific issues as they arise and to provide a greater focus on important strategic issues.
